Local Price Reduction
If I were mayor I would enforce a 20% decrease in prices for locals on retail and restaurants on Peninsular Charleston and at select popular venues in the greater Charleston area which fluently cater to the needs of tourists and locals alike, but which sport the price tags suited for a vacation rather than daily life. Locals would be issued a “locals card” which would award them the discount when presented, much like locals in Key West are awarded discounts for being required to tolerate tourists and tourist prices.

I remember this from Key West. It was a long time ago, but I think they had a little sign for businesses that were local-friendly voluntary participants. "Love Our Locals" or something like that. Then locals just had to show a driver's license with a 'local' zip code. I think a lot of locals would respond to this. They might shop King St and elsewhere instead of online where prices are so much better, eat in local friendly restaurants, etc. I do sort of miss the days when restaurants felt like part of a community where one saw people we knew. Maybe those who encouraged us would get more local action. It certainly might be a way for good old standbys like Carolina's and Il Cortil Del Rey to survive instead of close. I think I also remember a bar in Key West called Locals Only, which was very popular with tourists who dared to go there!
