King Street already does this a few days out of the year, which is fantastic, yet it should become permanent. Having atleast one pedestrian only street is one of the most enjoyable common denominators we’ve found in other great cities of the world. The walkability of Charleston is one of its best attributes. It should be encouraged.

I like this idea too. I think it could definitely work here in Charleston. Even New York has closed Times Square to traffic. For King Street, it could be a timed closure. Maybe closed between 10am-7pm Sunday-Thursday and 10am-10pm Friday-Saturday. Of course the cross streets would still operate as normal.

I think it's a great idea but would take a really bold move by the mayor, and probably a lot of convincing of local merchants. Store owners might be really attached to being able to pull up in their cars and unload in front of their buildings.
