THE PROJECT OR INITIATIVE

My project is about the timeless space of youth and imagination.  I want capture the excitement and unlimited potential we all felt as kids.  The swing, represents a universal activity and the feeling that I am talking about.  I want to paint 3 images, of different kids swinging in 3 site specific areas.

 

WHO BENEFITS

The stakeholders are the communities in the upper peninsula and the whole city of Charleston.  The freedom felt from escaping gravity, even if just for a second, transcends generations.  I want people to have a sense of joy when they see the images, and have that joy reflect on to area in which it is painted.

HURDLES & CHALLENGES

The biggest hurdles for this project are the locations.  I am thinking about the freeway/bridge structures that offer ample height need to convey the sense of weightlessness.  These types of locations also are well seen through the area.  In addition to these types of walls there are also buildings private/businesses that could have ideal wall space.  Schools also have potential walls.  I would need help approaching a securing these types of spaces.

 

POTENTIAL FOR COLLABORATION

Public art gives us a chance to bring these feelings (joy,excitement, etc.) out of a community.  I would like to set this up an on going mural project that allows artists throughout the area to express these feelings for the community.  Different artists could pick up the theme (youth & imagination) and add to the city’s ever changing canvas.
