traffic flow
Create one or more elevated walk ways over Calhoun St. in the vicinity of the College of Charleston as a safety protection for students and other pedestrians. In turn, traffic flow in this busy section will be greatly enhanced. Another improvement would be to install timed right and left turn traffic signal lights at Calhoun and King Streets to lessen traffic congestion, driver uncertainty, and constant lane shifting by drivers.

Getting the people out of the way (via elevated walkways) is not the answer; the City needs to focus on removing cars from roadways and/or directing the flow of vehicles in a better manner. People should not have to walk 25' feet in the air to be safe from cars, especially in a downtown street with people walking everywhere all the time.

A lot of cities in Europe make people walk more, a few US too, try Bolder CO. Have traffic for deliveries in the early hours then the streets close and a cafe culture comes alive. Get the cars out of the way in hidden car parks behind the main buildings. This is a beautiful city, not a car park.

Many cities have elevated walkways to help pedestrians due to traffic or severe weather ie Minneapolis skyways. These walkways would also have to be ADA compliant something woefully lacking at the College of Charleston and the city in general.
